Meditation for Autumn: Go Inward, Let Go

Autumn is a time for shedding old, going inward to listen and prepare for new.  This autumn meditation will help you move along through the the season almost seamlessly. There are many shifts that happen during Autumn.  Nature prepares to "sleep" during the transition from summer to fall.  The light of the day get shorter.  There's a calm and quiet in the air.  There's an adjustment that happens in our bodies as well, when the season changes.  It might be so subtle that you don't notice it but it's there.

With all the hustle and fun that happens during the warmer months, it can be an adjustment to settle into a slower pace with shorter, cooler days.  Taking some time to acknowledge the change can be rewarding.  Meditation can be rewarding.

Autumn meditation

Autumn is a gateway to slowing down and reflecting on everything going on in your life or around you.

Going inward and meditating in order to let go of things that no longer serve you, can be very beneficial. Honoring the slow down of the season and using it to benefit you by reflecting on things that have happened over the past few months or weeks. This helps to free up space for new things. You might even notice some of the little unnoticeable things that are taking shape during this transition.

Taking time to sit even for a few minutes and focus on what you feel deep inside is important for release and renewal.  This Autumn medication is about 9 minutes and will help you settle in and listen to your inner most wants and needs.

Things to think on if you prefer to meditate alone (without a guide).  Go somewhere quiet where you won't be disturbed.  You won't be here long, about 5-10 minutes.  Find a comfortable seat or lay on your back.  Try to release tension throughout your body.  Close your eyes or soften your gaze.  Breathe in and out through your mouth.

Meditation thinking points:

  • Focus on the breath moving in and out of your nose. Filling up your lungs, diaphragm and belly. Hold your focus here for at least 10 in and out breaths.

  • Envision a scene from autumn. The colors, crispness of the air, the way the sun shines in a more yellow or orange hue. Notice the stillness.

  • Turn your gaze inward, focusing on your heart center. Go deep. Ask yourself what or who you want to be, what you want to be doing, what type of environment will help you thrive, etc.

  • Dig even deeper and notice the obstacles. The things that might be holding you back from accomplishing these goals and wants. Don't try to solve the problems, just take note.

  • Go back to your breath. Focus the breath toward your heart center. Stay here breathing and noticing feelings that might come up. Acknowledge the feelings and let them go.

When you're ready slowly open your eyes and go about your day.  Let me know how it goes!

Namaste,

Val
